There is a particular stillness that arrives just before the weather changes—when a warm front pushes in from the horizon, the light shifts gold, and the water goes quiet. Everything pauses. The sky hasn’t decided yet. That suspended moment is what this painting is about.

In “Before the Turn,” a massive warm cloud formation rolls in from the right, its soft ochre and cream tones pressing against the cool grey-green that still holds the left side of the sky. Below, the water catches both—golden light pooling on the right shore, cool silver-blue still lingering to the left. A dark band of land anchors the middle, grounding the composition between what’s passing and what’s arriving.
